"Heath" by Vincent Fantauzzo

Ledger sat for Fantauzzo on his last visit home to Perth in December. The painting depicts the notoriously private actor as three separate images.
...
The central, and largest, image is of Ledger, bare - chested, looking straight ahead, appearing pained and exhausted.
...
The two back ground images are of Ledger wearing humorous expressions, whispering into the ears of his foreground image.

“The whispering, the voices, the frustration or something comical – they [represent] different ways that we might be thinking in our own mind.”
...
Fantauzzo said he felt privileged to have worked with Ledger.

"Heath was a very private person, which is one of the reasons I was so honoured that he allowed me to paint him," Fantauzzo told reporters.

"He was so easy and professional to work with. He didn't need any direction, [he was] absolutely focused. Once done, he was back to his usual charismatic self."

Ledger's childhood friend, hip hop artist N'fa, told Channel Ten News the actor couldn't wait to see the finished work.

"He was very excited about it. He was very excited to see the finished product," N'fa said.
...
N'fa said the picture had captured Ledger perfectly. "This is the way he always was. He was always a thought ahead. He was the hardest person to play chess against."

I agree, his legs looked so long, it was especially noticeable when he was sitting in the audience at the AA.

I don't remember him in the audience at the AA. It was noticeable in BBM too, in the opening scene, when Jack watches him walk away in the mirror, when he takes his jeans off to wash himself etc.

Vincent: "Heath's mom...made us crumpets." awww. Naturally, the guy who painted Heath is good-looking, sweet and sensitive. ;)

Listening to Vincent, it really strikes you how Heath had to live with a very isolating kind of fame. The kind of fame that comes when you represent a lot of things to a lot of people and are held apart as some kind of saint, sinner, heartthrob and icon all at once. So people reacted to him in extremes, with tears or aggression or adoration. No wonder he yearned for ordinary friendships. Fame brings a lot of loneliness.

Very true, it seems he was more susceptible to it than most celebrities. IMO the loneliness is one of the reasons he took his friends with him everywhere he went, he wanted to try and keep it at bay. I don't think he succeeded though.

"Milk" received raves from the Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Good news. :)

Anonymous said...

I'd been thinking how great it would be if Heath won Best Supporting for Joker and the award presenter (to whomever would accept for Heath...Nolan, his dad?) was Sean Penn. Just because I want to hear the other outstanding actor in Hollywood drool over him in front of millions. (DDL has already done it. )

Now there seems to be a chance SP could win Best Actor. The scenario of Sean winning and presenting Best Supporting to Heath would be sweet.

Anonymous said...

The scenario of Sean winning and presenting Best Supporting to Heath would be sweet.

How amazing would that be?! :)

Glad to hear the critics love Milk, can't wait to see it.

Van Sant moves beyond his experimental filmmaking of the last half-decade for a restrained, unembellished approach. The style is classic filmmaking of the '70s, a film that watches and observes everything and everybody. He makes excellent use of archival footage throughout the period film, especially such images as the Castro district undergoing sweeping demographic changes and the awful moment of Dianne Feinstein's City Hall steps announcement of the assassinations of Mayor Moscone and Milk.

Penn is one of those actors in complete control of his entire instrument. He uses voice, body movements, line readings and something indefinable within his own psyche to transmigrate into another person's body and mind. Franco, meanwhile, demonstrates the dilemma of a person who signed up for a committed relationship but not necessarily a revolution.

Luna is loopy and sometimes, seemingly, just looped as Milk's erratic boyfriend. Brolin is surprisingly sympathetic as a man in over his head, unable to differentiate between friends and foes and clinging to traditional mores in a city caught in the ferment of radical change.

Sean is great, my kind of actor. He said that after he shot the kissing scenes with James he called Madonna and told her something like "I just popped my cherry with a guy. I don't know why I thought you should know that". hehe

I wish Heath would've been a bit more relaxed and joked about BBM more, well he did at the beginning.

He and Jake were awkward about and with each other becuause they most likely were hot for each other. It's as simple as that.

It was not Sean who revealed the story but James Franco. The "cherry popping" story:

Hollywood actor Sean Penn reportedly texted his ex-wife Madonna to brag about his first gay kiss while shooting the biopic of US gay advocate Harvey Milk.

His co-star - and kissing partner - James Franco revealed: "After our kiss, Sean texted Madonna and said, 'I just popped my cherry kissing a guy. I thought of you. I don't know why.'" Apparently, the Queen of Pop replied, saying: 'Congratulations'.

Pizza chain withdraws dancing corpses ad
November 3, 2008 - 4:19PM

A New Zealand pizza chain has withdrawn an advertisement showing skeletal animations of actor Heath Ledger, the Queen Mother and Mount Everest conqueror Sir Edmund Hillary dancing on a grave.

The Halloween promotion ad on the Hell Pizza website showed the three skeletal celebrities emerging from graves and dancing to Michael Jackson's song Thriller.

Ledger and Hillary died in January this year and the Queen Mother died in 2002.

Hillary's son Peter said the ad was in "extremely poor taste".

um, yeah.

There's something about Franco that bothers me. He's a good looking fellow, but he annoys me.
Penn's a great actor. He'll probably get a best actor nom. This award season should be interesting.
Heath, Anne, Sean P. (maybe Michlle too if she's lucky) will all probably be nominated for various awards.

Anonymous said...

There's something about Franco that bothers me. He's a good looking fellow, but he annoys me.

Same. IDK why but he comes across as douchey to me. I don’t appreciate actors using sexual ambiguity to arouse interest and to be more popular either. Others have done it before, we should know eh? Still I find it off-putting. Many of his interviews for Milk have plenty of cockteasing which will probably stop when it won’t be useful to him anymore. Again, we’re familiar with that. ;) James in pretty and he's starring in Milk so he gets a free pass this time.

Anonymous said...

^
Totally agree 1:19. Jake poo seems to be his role model.
Jake's sexual ambiguity made him that much more popular among the gay community. It even went that far that many thought this up and coming, hot actor will come out and be a role model for other closeted gay men.
It's actually quite douchy what he did.
Frankly, and you don't have to believe me, I don't think Jake had more sexual experience with guys than Heath. And I think Heath is mainly into women and had some experiences with dudes to try out.

Anonymous said...

^
Jake was more talented in promoting himself, make himself more interesting/mysterious.
With his trained charm he made everyone fall for him.
He knows how to play the game and I'm sure he'll improve with age.

Anonymous said...

Jake has manipulated the gay community and the BBM fanbase to his own pleasure, used them and then tossed them aside when he realized they weren't helping him much at the box office. It's a disgrace and he should be ashamed for doing it but I'm sure he doesn't give it a passing thought.

Jake’s sexual orientation aside, I don't see him as a very sexual person unlike Heath who I think couldn't go without it for long. It's only speculation on my part but that's the hunch I have.

Anonymous said...

1:38 Too bad he lost what made him interesting and mysterious. Now he’s just another pretty (not lately though) actor who wants to be big and who'd do just about anything to make it happen.

Anonymous said...

Jake - Jake's a solid actor, but no DDL or JD kinda talent. That's why it can be helpful to use your high profile relationship to promote yourself. "Isn't he just great? Dating an older woman with two kids and seems to be a good stepdaddy..." ;)
He and Reese know exactly what they are doing. She wouldn't have come so far if she wasn't a smart woman.
You guys can hate her all you want, but she is smart.

Anonymous said...

Jake is much more famous for his “private life” than his acting, I wonder if being known as RW's bf is what he was going for.

You guys can hate her all you want, but she is smart.

I don't hate her. I don't like her but I don't hate her either. It's not worth wasting my energy on despising her, really. Most of Jake’s fans hate her guts, I think it’s hilarious.

Anonymous said...

^
Of course thanks to Reeke, Reese comes off as hot, dating a hot, young guy. No wonder she's pimping it.

Before BBM, I admit I heard of Donnie Darko, but never watched it. I heard of Jake as Kirsten Dunst's bf. She was big at the time they were dating. Pity she became a substance abusive loser. :(
Jake seems to feel good when he can score the "it" ladies and you can't deny Reese was big after her Oscar and before the Rendition disaster.

Anonymous said...

Most of Jake’s fans hate her guts, I think it’s hilarious.

Many, who think it's real, hate her because they are jealous.
I don't care one way or the other whom he dates. When they break up it'll be another blonde, who'll be hated by his fans.
I remember Kirsten was hated by his fans too when they were dating. Now they say how they were a much better match. ;)

Anonymous said...

Oh and people blaming Reese for the pimping pics with Jake after Heath's death. Both acted like douchebags, not only her. Also Heath was supposedly his friend, he didn't have anything to do with Witherspoon.

I always thought Jake was Tobey Maguire, then came BBM and I finally got it lol. Reese is definitely more famous than Jake even if Jake's fans won't admit it.

Exactly.

I don't give a rat’s ass about Reese in this matter and in general. She probably didn't even know Heath. I don't think he would've wasted his breath on that fake famewhore anyway. It was Jake who said before and after Heath's death that they were close friends (yeah, right) and it was Jake who was Matilda's godfather not Reese Witherspoon. I don't buy the jealousy, the lack of time or other theories either. And Jake attended the LA memorial. Really? How come all the paps were after him and no one knew anything about it? Uh huh.

I'm not jealous, but Gemma is weird looking imo.
Namoi Watts was HOT in her 30ies. The hottest of Heath's gf's.
I don't think Namoi aged particularly well though. She has moster lines on her face. And don't tell me it's normal when you're 40. I know plenty of 40+ RL women who have much better skin.
I think Namoi didn't take good care of her skin when younger. She should have avoided sun or make up when not working. Michelle Williams has great skin. I think she takes very good care of it.

Yes, Michelle's skin is amazing. Very few actresses could stand mega-sized scrutiny as in that "not nice" pic. Abbie C also has great skin.

Joaquin Phoenix Worries Friends

Could Oscar nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix be the next celebrity headed to rehab? Last week, Joaquin attended a Paul Newman tribute in San Francisco and was described as being very out of it by another guest. A source told Page Six that rather than get involved, he just walked himself right out of the event.

"He wobbled back in a bit later, but it was odd. He was slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet."

If you recall, that was the very same night that Joaquin told reporters he had intentions of giving up on acting forever.

“It’s like greener pastures, you know what I mean?” Phoenix said Saturday. “And so, I’m just going to try and like, I’ll just be doing the other thing. … Hopefully, I will emotionally impact you with that, as well.”

Perhaps he didn't realize what he said that night and won't actually be retiring from the business? He's an extremely talented actor, so we certainly hope not. "

Apparently his agent, Iris Burton, died in April.

Brangelina gets on my nerves, it’s on every gossip site and in every rag but since I don't read tabloids I don't care about that. I used to love Angie back when she was crazy, fun, anti Hollywood and loathed the media attention. Now she's boring, she and the clan are a product. I think it's time for us to accept that probably in the last couple of years Jake and Heath were rather acquaintances than friends.
Jake chose to keep out of all the "trouble" after Heath died and frankly it was his prerogative.
I'm pretty certain Jake already moved on with his life. The people who won't forget him anytime soon or ever are his family, close friends and fans like us.
Deep within I think most of us know that.

There's no way for us to know what the story with the jumper is or if they kept in touch, unless Jake addresses the issue (no way he will) and even then he might lie.

The only thing I read on this subject and could very well be bs is that Jake visited Maggie in Chicago when she was filming TDK last summer and saw Heath there. Supposedly the poster who said this had a source. I'm taking it with a big grain of salt.

The state opposition says Heath Ledger's family could have been spared more grief if premier Colin Barnett had shown sensitivity before publicly casting doubt on naming Perth's new theatre complex after the Dark Knight star. Mr Barnett admitted this morning that continuing public debate over the way the Western Australia should honour Heath Ledger - parked by comments he made last week - was causing even more grief to the dead actors' family.

After casting serious doubts over whether the proposed name of the Heath Ledger Theatre complex would go ahead, the premier said this morning he had had a long conversation with Ledger's father Kim - an old football team-mate - about what should be done to honour the actor.

But Ben Wyatt, opposition arts spokesman, said Barnett had shown "gross sensitivity" in not contacting the actor's family before raising about the issue.

"Colin Barnett has shown more front than Myer on this one, and certainly I would not treat my old football buddy the way he has treated Kim Ledger," Wyatt told WAtoday.com.au.

"He knew this would cause grief so perhaps he should have made that call to him before he made the decision to raise this issue publicly.

As the doctor attending him describes the strange little creature, “He has all the deterioration, the infirmities, not of a newborn, but of a man well in his 80s on the way to his grave.”

But Benjamin doesn’t die. Instead, abandoned by his wealthy father and taken in by Queenie (Taraji P. Henson), an African-American attendant at a New Orleans home for the elderly, he begins to age in reverse. By 7, he looks like a little old man in a wheelchair, peering out at the world through thick glasses. Thanks to the film’s deft use of computer-generated imagery — so deft and so sophisticated that, after a few minutes, it no longer seems remarkable — those eyes are recognizably those of Mr. Pitt, and they continue to be as Benjamin moves through all the stages of his life." more

Heath was so hot. Makes me sad. :(

How come everyone and their grandmother tried to help wacko Britney, even Mel Gibson invited Brit and her dad to vacation with him to help her with her problems.
But no one saw that something wasn't ok with Heath?
As I've mentioned before, not only his old fans even the new ones noticed something was wrong. I remember even one day before he died there was a thread on imdb where a poster aked if Heath was depressed.
It makes me angry. I get he probably used the painkillers for his back, but how can someone be well when he needs anxiety mediacation and sleeping pills? He wasn't well at all, even if it was an accident and I think it was. An accident bound to happen though, I think.

I just watched the stupid "Womanizer" song from Brit and thought, well people helped her and succeeded, unforutnately Heath wasn't so lucky.
That's why I brought this up again. :(

IA, I don't think he was well at all. It was pretty obvious in the last pics, I can't believe no one noticed that something was wrong. He looked down and exhausted, maybe he ignored the problems thinking they will pass, IDK.

Britney is different, she was a wreck and that’s what saved her IMO. It was all in the open and people around her had no choice but to force help on her. Then there're the notorious substance abusers like Wino, not to sound mean or anything but if she died it wouldn't be a shock.

Heath's passing was out of the blue, apparent misery and all. Who doesn’t have bad periods in their life, but from that to death is a long way. IDK if I believe in destiny but I tend to think Heath was the kind of person that would die young, you know what I mean? There was just too much of everything in him to live life a regular individual.

Something more cheerful, cause we have no choice. Heath and his friend N'fa give love to the paps

love you too

Anonymous said...

If you believe in destiny, maybe it was his destiny. Who knows?
IA, Britney was very public about her problems. Heath, I believe, kept his problems to himself. I think he had to have very observant and caring people around him. I know he had many friends, but maybe most of them didn't bother to dig deeper if they saw something that is.

Dark Knight Fan Cooks Up 'Audacity of Joke'

A Dark Knight fan mashed two of this year's most-copied visuals to create a cool Election Day image. James Lillis subbed an image of Heath Ledger's Joker into artist Shepard Fairey's "Hope" poster for Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama. Lillis calls the resulting image "The Audacity of Joke."

Ledger's performance, on the other hand, spurred Lillis into action.

"Heath Ledger's Joker will have to go down as one of the all-time great movie villains," said Lillis, a 32-year-old professional speaker from Brisbane, Australia. "Having watched his scenes over a few times, you'll find there's a lot more to the character than you first assume. His logic is actually quite consistent!

"At the risk of getting too philosophical, he comes across as some demonic spawn of Nietzsche and post-modernism. Which is why everyone has such a hard time understanding him -- he rejects popular ideals of rationalism and modernism."

"I like to do something I fear. I like to set up obstacles and defeat them. I like to be afraid of the project. I always am. When I get cast in something, I always believe I shouldn`t have been cast. I fooled them again. I can`t do it. I don`t know how to do it. There`s a huge amount of anxiety that drowns out any excitement I have toward the project."

Makes me very sad that he was so insecure about his acting, he said he was scared they’ll discover he was a fraud. Jeez, how could he not have known how good he was? He couldn’t even watch his movies without thinking he wasn’t good in that scene or that he should’ve done this or that differently. (((Heath)))

Naomi Watts:” I think he was starting to own that and that’s the deepest tragedy, in terms of his work. He was just beginning to own it and embrace it.”

1:56, Heath seemed to be pathologically insecure.

He was insecure about his acting abilities and in front of the camera doing promotional stuff, being on stage, interviews and whatnot. Sure therapy can't hurt but it isn't mandatory. He didn't seem to be socially insecure at all.

Ledgers ‘hesitant’ over theatre tribute
6th November 2008, 12:00 WST

Heath Ledger’s family are hesitant about accepting a State Government offer to name Perth’s new performing arts complex after the late actor, Premier Colin Barnett said today.

Speaking on ABC Radio this morning, Mr Barnett said he had spoken with and written to Kim Ledger, father of Heath, about the matter.

“I think it must be quite hurtful for the family to see these issues debated,” he said.

“There’s no doubt that Heath Ledger’s family is very proud of him and his achievements, but I don’t know that they want this degree of attention given to his name, his memory.”

Nonetheless, Mr Barnett said he would like to see the late actor’s name commemorated in some way at the new centre to encourage young people into careers in the arts.

The announcement came days after shadow arts minister Ben Wyatt criticised Mr Barnett for publicly reconsidering the future name of the complex.

“We have spoken with the family and they are disappointed about the way this has been raised. They consider it unsavoury and would have thought that the Premier, at the very least, could have given the Ledger family a call to let them know that this issue was again up for public discussion,” he said.

A spokeswoman for Kim Ledger said the family was not prepared to comment.

Interview by Patrick Stoner from Flicks

I find it fascinating to listen to him talk about how he prepared for playing his characters, in this case Ennis. Whatever went bad in his life one thing is certain, he was focused and extremely serious about his work. His personal life hasn't affected his acting because he was a professional and loved what he did.

From the interview:

“... when I was in front of the camera I was incredibly comfortable and able to breathe as him which is really a wonderful place to be at”

On a side note, he was such a babe in black. Well he was a babe, period.

MK is still a funny sob even though this is not a laughing matter. It's sad really.

Prop 8 Passed

Prop 8, which re-bans gay marriage, will most likely pass. Right now 95% of the votes have been counted. 52% are for and 48% are against. There's still around 4 million absentee ballots that need to be counted, but it's probably not enough to turn things around. The state is no longer marrying the gays as of today. It's looking grim and gross.

A few of the 18,000 couples that were married will file lawsuits. Civil rights groups are also challenging the measure by asking the Supreme Court to strike it down based on the argument that you can't just take shit away from one certain group.

I don't get this shit. I'm a tax-paying dumb bitch like everyone else. I should have the right to fly to California, catch a sugar daddy on his death bed, marry him, wait a couple of months for him to kick it and then collect all his cash. Seriously, that's my lifelong goal and now a bunch of fun killers in California have stopped me from being able to achieve this!

Gus Van Sant's Milk Has Just Become So Much More Relevant

It wasn't a victory for everyone yesterday. I really hate mixing politics and journalism, but I can't help it today, because I feel like I need to promote Gus Van Sant's Milk even more based on the results of the election in California. For those who aren't from that state, there was a proposition on the ballot addressing gay marriage rights. If it passed, it would amend the state Constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman, negating a decision by the California Supreme Court to allow same-sex marriage. So why is this important? It mirrors another big proposition that Harvey Milk fought against 30 years ago that eventually lead to his assassination and was documented in the film. And with results showing that it did pass, it makes that film so much more important and relevant to the real world today. more

Slim chances but perhaps Milk would've influenced the results to Prop 8 had Focus Features released it sooner.

She looks about 10 years younger. Look at her HD pics, her face is full of wrinkels. She's still a beautiful woman, but they did a hell of a good airbrush job.
She probably got good money for being the face for "Angel". Lucky her.
Anne is also the face for a new perfume. I don't know what the criteria are for being a perfume face, but despite me liking Anne, I've got to say, I think she has a weird face. I wouldn't call her beautiful at all.

IA about Naomi having many wrinkles, she looks tired too. No wonder, she has a 14 months old baby and anther one the way. That's a lot of work and many sleepless nights. I was surprised by the wrinkles because she didn't seem to have any a couple of years ago. People get older and that's normal, kudos to her for avoiding the path her friend Nicole and other starlets chose. She's still beautiful IMO.

Heath/Naomi - I think it worked with Noami because both wanted a good time. They both partied a lot while together. And when Naomi wanted to settle down, she didn't want to do it with Heath, she thought he wasn't ready. That's what she said. But I do think they still loved each other. They also stayed friends after the break up.
I really think Heath wanted to make it work with Michelle, the problem was they didn't know each other too well before she got pregnant. He was a guy who loved freedom, his friends. She, I think, was the domestic type. Didn't she have a problem with Heath's friends? I think she wasn't the type who wanted people around 24/7, Heath as we read, seemed to love it. Simply too different interests, on top of other issues he and they both had, I'm sure.
